Miniature Wreaths

Lots of snow makes way for new Fairview Place products! Introducing Miniature Wreaths.

These cuties measure approximately 18" long and the hoop, or actual wreath is 4" in diameter. Super cute in a nursery or gallery wall. Or hang on a door knob. I think these will make fun custom orders in the future as well!

#19: Felt Succulents

It has taken a lot of convincing from John of Glass Gardens to get me to make these...but I have to admit they are pretty adorable. I spent a drive up to Richmond on Saturday cutting out hundreds of these little leaves (and getting felt scraps all over the car). Sunday night when we got home, I assembled them all, only to realize a much easier way to create them. Sorry, that trick is a secret. But these little cuties can be yours, head over to the Etsy shop to see what is available. They will also be making their way to Kitsch sometime this month.

Grapevine Wreath

Another score at Hobby Lobby....a grapevine wreath for only $7! I attached a bouquet of felt flowers and am sorta loving how it looks. Good thing Hobby Lobby is opening in just a few short months and I'll be able to grab these wreaths all the time!

#73: Felt Flower Garland

My new favorite felt flower project. Approximately 5 feet of the flower garland is now on sale at Table Seven in Ghent, for $50! Also to debut later this month at Lorak Jewelry - but more to come on that later!

You can also sign up to take a class at Kitsch to learn how to make this your self! The class is June 24th, at 6 p.m., for only $35! Quite a steal on this garland, if you ask me!!

#25: Make Something for a Friend (of a Friend)

You know those projects you put on Pinterest and they sit there for months just staring you in the face? I mean, that's like 93% of all the things on my Pinterest boards. Thanks to Emily, I can finally cross this one off the board. She's giving them as a baby shower gift for a friend who is due this month. I altered them slightly from the ones I saw online, mainly in the clothing and I used fabric layered on the houses.

Even though they took a little longer than I predicted (2+ hours), I now have the patterns and the steps down to make lots more in the future.

Custom Felt Bouquets

For a Valentine's Day, I posted a special on felt bouquets: $30 for 12 stems, $20 for 8, and $15 for a mini 5-stem arrangement. I was delighted to see an order in my inbox the next morning! One 12-stem bouquet and three mini bouquets, in matching jewel tones. The stuff of a brand new business out of Williamsburg will receive these cuties come Friday.

If you're local to the Hampton Roads area, it's not too late to order yours! Just send me an email at ashley.fairviewpl@gmail.com, or check out the selection at Kitsch.

Felt Flower: Christmas Collection

I know a certain someone who has already claimed this first Christmas Bouquet. She's made a pretty good trade offer and if the bouquet doesn't sell this weekend, I will just have to take her up on it. This was the second bouquet I made and it makes me want snow and hot chocolate and my living room to be lit up with Christmas lights (pretty impressive a few felt flowers can do all of that, right?). I used a variety of materials for this bouquet, including vintage buttons, burlap, 1950s tinsel garland, pinecones and yarn. Just makes you feel like turning on some Bing Crosby and snuggling by the fire, right?

For this bouquet, I experimented with some satin fabric I had left over from this dress (which I still have not worn). Turn out to be a nice and lovely addition to the felt. I used lace for the accent pieces and centers of the smaller flowers.

Some of my flower arrangements are inspired by massive amounts of felt I never use, i.e. greys, blues and purples. You'll never find grey flowers in the real world, but here they look plain pretty! I placed the bouquet in a maple syrup bottle we got for a housewarming present, so you might just get a whiff of that sweet, delicious smell with your bouquet.

Felt Flowers: Spring Collection

The Spring Collection was the hardest for me, and I'm still brainstorming some other color combinations. My grandmother always had daisies growing beside her garage, so I definitely want to make a big daisy bouquet for all the Mothers and Grandmothers in May.

I played around with lavender stems and am pretty happy with them. They would make great housewarming presents, and since they are lightly infused with lavender spray, it's pretty much the real thing.

The great thing about felt flowers is you can have them in any color! In the real world, it's a little hard to come by real baby blue flowers. In the felt world, it's just another day in the studio.

I think these mini bouquets (about five inches tall) would make great Easter gifts for family and friends. The flowers can also be attached to hair clips or elastic headbands and tucked inside Easter eggs. Is it bad I'm already looking forward to the Spring and it's just starting to feel like Autumn? I guess another benefit of felt is I don't have to wait to for a new season to start working on my creations!

Felt Flowers Have Arrived!

The cat's out of the bag! I'm officially making felt flowers, boutonnieres and bouquets. It's something I've always wanted to try and after my successful attempt at the brooches, I figured, why not?! At first, the process was very tedious and, to be honest, a little frustrating. After of a weekend of practicing, trying different wires and strategies, I think I've got a hang of this.

This first bouquet was modeled after one I received on Sunday. Sonia brought me the lovely flowers (right) when the family came over for dinner. As I sat down Monday night thinking of what to make, I looked at the fresh bouquet and decided I would make those.

This would be a great idea for brides who do the traditional 'bouquet toss' at their reception. Instead of having an extra bouquet made, you could have one of these made, and it's also a great memento to the receiver.

The sunflowers are probably my favorite so far. I just love the big, bold presence of them, and they look great on a plain stem without even putting them into a bouquet.

The JMU Flowers...One thing that's difficult for me is not seeing team colors when I'm arranging the flowers. Is that weird? I think it is. Regardless, of your team allegiance, the purple and gold bouquet is quite a statement piece and would be pretty addition to any room.

This is the miniature variation of the Autumn bouquet, consisting of 7 flowers, instead of 13 (not including the leafy garnish). The mini bouquets would make great table centerpieces or lovely accents to a buffet or mantle. As you can see, I've been quite obsessed with this new crafty outlet... I'll be posting more throughout the day, including Christmas and Spring Collections :)

Felt Salad

With all the junk felt food I make, I decided it was time to make something a little heathier...a salad! I really love this set because while it's fun for any play kitchen, you can also use it to teach colors and counting. The set includes 12 lettuce leaves (in four different colors), 3 croutons, 3 mushrooms, 2 egg slices, 2 cucumber slices, 3 radishes and 4 carrots.

It was just added to my Etsy shop, so be sure to take a look and favorite the item for future shopping :)

Monday Musebles: Cleaning and Organizing

Some people (ahem...Mike...) might say I'm rather messy. I personally wouldn't consider it messy, maybe just a little cluttered. Or maybe an organized mess (does that fit into the same category as a functional alcoholic?). Anyway, I've been waiting a while to get all my craft stuff organized. I had to find the right furniture, then sell my desk and buffet table - both of which sold on Craigslist in less than three weeks!

I found these new storage pieces at Garden Ridge in Chesapeake. Unfortunately they were too short for my existing bins so I had to buy all new ones. Wasn't too upset though, it gave me a chance to go through all my supplies and purge a little. I have space for all my felt food packaging in one place, along with organizing all my packaging and shipping labels. Guess that means Fairview Place (via Etsy) is open for business again!

This plant stand I bought when I first moved here at an antique store out on Granby Street. I had actually left the store and drove halfway home, only to turn around and go back and get this! It was $14! I used it for all my shoes (with canvas bins), but now use it for my buttons and packaging station.

Mike's dresser is still in need of its makeover. I had this in mind, but since almost everything in our house has some sort of distressed look to it, I'm thinking about going NORMAL. Maybe this or this. I'm using this piece for all my paper/sticker/stationery/paper parcels materials and for the finished products.

I also got the pillows (#86) made for the guest bed, I have to say I'm pretty obsessed
with the patterns (even if Mike thinks the blue pillow is actually Batman material)

I typically don't use a lot of ribbon, but this year I plan on making a whole slew of the holly-day brooches. This ribbon (plus what I have in storage) will come in handy then and so will this dispenser made from a wine rack and dial rods. I'm feeling pretty satisfied that I can finally cross off #64: Clean and #43: Organize.

Pack of Mini Cupcakes

I have been waiting for this moment for a long time (and you thought I was going to say I'm engaged...haha). My reveal of the felt mini cupcakes! I've been planning what these little lovelies were going to look like in my head since I bought the container several months ago. Finally, I got around to making the desserts come to life.

There are 12 cupcakes in all in the following flavors:
Coffee
German Chocolate
Carrot Cake
Pink Lemonade
Red Velvet
White Chocolate
FunFetti
Dark Chocolate
Red Raspberry
Lemon
Peanut Butter Chip
Butterscotch

These cuties measure 2" tall and 2" at its widest point. The designs are all my own - even the pattern which took forever to get right! Set includes plastic carrying case and I can design to fit each individual party, taste or occasion.

Felt Onion Rings

Here's the thing, I love onion rings. Absolutely love them. But honestly, I can't remember the last time I ordered them at a restaurant. They seems like so much a bigger commitment than French fries and I usually can't convince someone to share an order with me....so now I have my very own felt version, whenever I want :)

These will be sold individually from the sandwiches, and come with the paper cartoon, packaged in cellophane and normal tag. $8 for a set of 6.
